Enunciation is no longer a focus in rap, which is fine—slurred delivery has been incorporated into or even become the signature style of many rappers. One of those rappers in question is Young Thug, whose songs, while insanely catchy, contain lyrics that are incredibly difficult to make out.
In an effort to help you out, GQ enlisted Thugger himself to recite the lyrics to “Best Friend” so that you may get a better understanding of what he’s trying to convey. The video is a strong reminder of how rappers are really our modern poets.
