Vic Mensa Freestyles About Racism and Justin Timberlake Controversy

Vic Mensa recently freestyled on DJ Semtex's show on BBC 1Xtra Radio and addressed racism and the Justin Timberlake controversy.

Vic Mensa has been very vocal recently on issues that are currently at the forefront, from advocating for LGBT equality to expressing his frustration with cultural appropriation of black culture. The latter involved Mensa’s explanation over why many took issue with Justin Timberlake’s problematic tweets about race.

Timberlake had sent out some ill-conceived tweets that surrounded Jesse Williams’ powerful speech at the BET Awards. The singer quickly received backlash for doing exactly what Williams was condemning in his speech. In response to this, Vic Mensa took to the opportunity during his recent appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore to suggest that Timberlake “[turns] a blind eye [from black culture] when it could be dangerous,” explaining that his music career tends to borrow from black culture, but fails speak up on issues that arise within the same culture.

Earlier this week, Vic Mensa appeared on DJ Semtex’s BBC 1Xtra Radio show and served up a new freestyle over the beat for Pusha T’s “Numbers on the Boards,” Addressing gun control, police violence, racism, and touching on the Justin Timberlake controversy, Vic clears the air a bit, rapping “For the record / I ain’t got no problem with Justin Timberlake / That’s a media spin / Don’t believe the shit they say.” His freestyle as a whole is a powerful one, showing off Vic’s impressive lyrical ability.
