Watch Lauryn Hill Perform "Rebel / I Find It Hard to Say" on 'Charlie Rose'
The formidable Ms. Lauryn Hill.

Earlier this week, Lauryn Hill shared an updated version of her moving single "Rebel / I Find It Hard to Say" featuring new instrumentation. The original, which first appeared on her 2002 MTV Unplugged 2.0 live album, is given a more modern spin.
Taking that revamped version to the stage for her Charlie Rose appearance, this new, more resplendent-sounding "Rebel / I Find It Hard to Say" translates beautifully on the live stage. However grand the instrumentation is, though, but the lyrics of her poignant song are more relevant than ever: "You think our lives are cheap, and easy to be wasted / as history repeats, so foul you can taste it."
The song was first performed at Jay Z and Beyoncé's TIDAL X: 1015 benefit concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last Saturday. Hill is also currently on the road alongside Nas, Kehlani, Little Simz, and Noname as part of her MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! tour. The shows feature “artists throughout the African diaspora."
