Wee Waa, New South Wales, Australia isn’t really ever on anybody’s radar, other than the fact that it’s called “Wee Waa.” The small town has a whopping population of 1,689 (according to Wikipedia), and is known as the “Australia’s cotton capital.” It’s safe to assume that not a whole lot happens; that is, at least not until May 17, when Daft Punk will be unveiling their highly-anticipated record, Random Access Memories, at the 79th Annual Wee Waa show. Yes, Wee Waa will be the site of the official global launch party for Random Access Memories.

So why have Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter chosen to play the album to the Wee Waas (is that what you call the locals?) four days before the album’s release? Pitchfork reports that the duo were attracted by “the CSIRO Australia Telescope and its array of satellite dishes.” Only 4,000 tickets will be available, and Wee Waa Show Society members are guaranteed tickets. So mark May 17 into your calendars, and a big congratulations to Wee Waa.
