In a world of rotating blog darlings and more superlatives than you can shake the biggest, baddest, trendiest, bassiest, chillest, dopest stick at, it’s easy to tune out hype and familiar names. While Ryan Hemsworth still has a lot to prove, he’s shown himself mostly worth the considerable buzz, a reliable, tasteful producer capable of adding real depth to songs he remixes. Here, Hemsworth takes Black Atlass’ “Castles”–originally a gauzy, distorted two minutes–and wraps it in a chilly, bass-heavy clarity that treats the vocals as both main event and window dressing. It’s another fine addition to an already solid year for Hemsworth (and a reminder that the 18 year-old Canadian Black Atlass is one to watch).
