Watch A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Perform "Drowning" With an Orchestra
The Bronx rapper is the latest artist to perform with Audiomack's "Trap Symphony."
Audiomack's "Trap Symphony" previously turned Migos tracks like "Hannah Montana" and "Handsome & Wealthy," into soaring, string-centric stunners, and the series has found a perfect new artist in A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The melodic New York rapper has previously released "Trap Symphony" takes on his cuts "Say A" and "No Promises," and we're excited to premiere the orchestral version of his hit single "Drowning" right here on Pigeons & Planes.
Back by a nine-piece orchestra, the version brings out the original's memorable piano line, as well as the understated, infectious quality in A Boogie's vocals. According to Audiomack CMO David Ponte, the "Trap Symphony" project was created for artists to "prove that they can go toe-to-toe with classically trained musicians and create something that is sonically beautiful and unique."
"The concept of Trap Symphony began in 2014 when my partner and [Audiomack CEO] Dave Macli and I were feeling especially enlightened while listening to Migos. We recognized how talented they were and wondered how their music would sound if backed by a professional orchestra. Although we joking at first, we couldn't stop talking about the concept until we finally hit up Coach K and the 300 Entertainment team, and pitched them the idea. They were extremely receptive, and from there it took off. Growing out of the success of the Migos production, and fans' constant buzz for more Trap Symphony's, we eventually pitched the concept to frequent Audiomack user A Boogie and his team at Highbridge the Label. Though Boogie has a deep catalog, the one song we all agreed on was "Drowning," which has the perfect composition, with its lively piano and strings. The Musical Director and composer John Clearly added a few additional layers to give the song a richer depth.
From orchestra's combiningKanye West and Beethoven to a symphony made entirely of turntables and mixers, hip-hop and classical music have always paired together quite well, and it has only become more apparent in this melodic era of rap. A Boogie is an excellent fit for "Trap Symphony," and we're excited to see who Audiomack gets on the mic next.
