When "California Heaven" dropped last month, longtime fans of Jahkoy realized a new chapter had begun. Not only did the song feature some serious star power in the form of a ScHoolboy Q verse, it also completed a shift away from rapping and into a much more dynamic, sung style for the young Toronto artist.
After a series of releases on Soundcloud earned him industry looks, Jahkoy took some advice from his grandma and left Toronto to pursue a music career in Los Angeles. A Disclosure concert had inspired a new melodic approach to music, and Jahkoy was just beginning to find his singing voice.
Nothing was guaranteed in L.A., and Jahkoy started his time away from home couch-surfing. The tides turned, however, and Jahkoy signed to Def Jam this past January. His Foreign Water EP just dropped last week, and the future's looking bright for the young artist.
