Short films are becoming increasingly popular in hip-hop—with recent cinematic releases from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, ScHoolboy Q, and Drake.Now, Common is the latest to join the party.
With his extensive background in cinema and the conceptual subject matter in his new album Black America Again, Common's foray into short film realm is one that works in reality as well as it does on paper. Directed by Bradford Young, the intense black and white film gives a peek at a slice of life in black America—with intermittent politically-charged verses from the 44-year-old Chicago rapper.
