“Ladies and gentlemen, hot off the block it’s the kids that pop your cotton socks off, Trudy and the Romance baby.”

Trudy and the Romance is here from from Liverpool to make waves in the music industry with their self-described mutant ’50s pop. It’s a unique sound and it’s displayed at its best with their latest song “He Sings.” With crashing drums and gritty guitar sounds, the record is sure to grab hold of the modern listener’s short attention span. Check out the record below and continue scrolling to learn a little more about the band in a quick interview.

What’s the story behind “He Sings?”

It came together very much in the band. We were quite conscious of dynamics and keeping it simple. We wanted noise, ruckus. It’s a bit of a mad love song really. It’s a slapper, stomper. It’s a good one for the dance floor. It’s a banger, an absolute banger.

Who are you guys’ influences?

We like Jonathan Richman. We enjoy his songwriting. We also like ’50s music, Doo-wop stuff. Frank Sinatra. Flamingos. Richard Hawley. Also fans of King Krule.

I saw that all of the videos for your songs are different home videos from your childhood. Who’s idea was that?

That’s just us as kids. Something kind of nostalgic about it. We also like the VHS camera grain. I doubt we’ll ever do it again, but it’s a quick and easy way to accomplish videos without a Super 8 camera or anything.

If you could tour with anyone, who would you guys choose?

We’d probably go with Jonathan Richman. Maybe King Krule would be cool!

What’s next for you guys?

We’re quite secretive with projects and songs. We like to just drop it. Down the line we’d like do an EP, maybe a few more singles. Just small time things like that, and then next year will hopefully be our year.
