Los Angeles’ TRACE had originally shied away from songwriting—her mother was a singer, and the choice seemed too banal, already engrained in her everyday. But as the years rolled on, the inevitable reared its head. TRACE, already a writer, could no longer deny that she had a fantastic voice.
“Heavy Shoulders” is a soothing combination of West Coast cool and hazy, ethereal production. It’s her debut single, and the accompanying video finds TRACE rolling around her hometown, finding new light in the mundane. She goes to the laundromat, takes a mesmerizing trip to the car wash, and ends up in the eye of the Los Angeles hurricane, Hollywood Boulevard.
