Sampha has a glorious, unique voice himself, but we also shouldn’t forget his production talents, which he brings to bear on “For You,” Londoner Fabiana Palladino’s new song. It’s a highly polished and concise pop song—there aren’t the rambling piano parts or unpredictable vocal inflections that Sampha’s own songs incorporate, but that’s no bad thing—with crystal clear vocals and unpretentious lyrics about being in love with someone. Where most people would have had the song end after the final chorus around three minutes and 30 seconds, Palladino has gone for the extended outro, a beautiful, angelic final section featuring Sampha’s vocals and twinkling production.
