For some musicians it’s not enough to just make music. Chicago-based musician Chaz Allen has released countless albums under a number of different names, and is a proud co-founder of the renowned virtual music venue SPF420. There’s an underlying sense of fun to everything he’s done, as evidenced by some of his borderline insane mashups, but this sense of fun perhaps shines through the most with his Thirsty project.
Pushing his talents under the alias, Chaz blends a number of disparate genres into a drunken, sugar-fueled whole. Each of the tracks he’s released as Thirsty so far have been absolutely absurd, with booming bass, distorted vocals, and twitchy percussion. He’s received support from the likes of xxyyxx, and has even received a brilliant remix from recent P&P favorite Blank Body. So far, he’s used the project to fully explore how far he can take the bombastic sound he established the project with himself, but he’s changing that with the abrasive and colorful “Get Like Me.”
Recruiting relative newcomer Leelo for production duties, “Get Like Me” pushes the squeaky clean, albeit caustic, sound of both artists into a sort of get drunk and do stupid shit anthem. The fun and silly video for the collaboration is directed by Alex Girav, who has directed videos for the likes of Ryan Hemsworth and Skylar Spence.
