Back when we interviewed Body Cheetah in July, he talked about his plans to release his latest record at the time, The Dead That Dance, by hand and by hand only. When we asked him why, he said “I don’t feel the need for my album to be any different than a conversation between two neighbors, or the dog barking at night.” Well, looks like he’s had a change of heart, and it’s clear that despite what he says, The Dead That Dance is indeed pretty different from that dog barking at night.

Shifting the autumnal beauty of the recently released Raking the Wind to the side, The Dead That Dance is a darker and colder sounding affair, ending up borderline medieval at points. The tracks here are shorter, more experimental, and considerably more minimal. It’s a different enough listen from Raking, despite the fact the album has dropped to the public en masse only 3 weeks after its release. Having said that, The Dead That Dance was completed prior to the release of Raking, technically making this his fourth full-length and Raking his fifth.

It’s a little confusing, but nonetheless, what was going to be a lost album of sorts, is here for us all to enjoy now. Listen to or download The Dead That Dance below, and learn more about the record and Body Cheetah here.
