We’ve been getting a lot of mixed messages about Grimes’ upcoming follow-up to 2012’s Visions, but last night she took to her Tumblr to clear up the situation a little bit. In her note she thanks everyone for the kind words, before going on to say that everyone reassuring her not to worry about what others think of her music is “truly unnecessary.” She continued, saying “I honestly never ‘ditched an album due to negative fan reaction to go.'”

She explained further, “Go did really well imo, obviously some people didn’t like it as it was different from my other material, but isn’t that the point of collaborations/ trying to write for other artists?” She expresses her annoyance at how numerous outlets claimed she ditched her album because of the reaction to “Go” in the note, saying that the rumor is “complete nonsense.”

“The album was scrapped cuz it was depressing and I didn’t want to tour it” she says bluntly, adding that she “may release it one day” anyway. She stresses that like other musicians, she throws out music constantly, saying that she wants “the next album to be as good as possible.” In fact, “Go” was never on the album to begin with, so anyone assuming the album was scrapped because of its polarized reaction are jumping to conclusions.

“People’s opinions do not factor into my process,” she explains. It’s good to know that she’s not backing down to fan pressure or the opinions of others, stressing once again that she’s “really not that sad or insecure of a person.” So there you have it, “Go” was just a one-off single and was only released as a thank you for fans waiting patiently for her next album after its numerous delays.

Even with the album delay, however, it looks like we’ll be getting another track from Grimes this Sunday on the latest episode of HBO’s Girls. Read her full note below.
