Elusive Londoner Elliott Power emerged from pretty much nowhere last year with the murky “SINK/SWIM,” and we haven’t heard much from him since. His soundcloud has seemingly been wiped clean, as if he opted for a reboot of sorts for his music. He’s already off to a strong start with his new song, the WIFE-produced “Portend.” The track carries the same dark and heady atmospherics as WIFE’s solo material, albeit with a more hip-hop spin. The brooding, clunking track mixes urgent yet whispery spoken-word verses with a celestial R&B-inspired chorus. It’s moody and gripping, promising more interesting things from Elliott in the future.
