Kentucky’s Ellie Herring has been slowly building a name for herself with music that gleefully fits into a number of disparate scenes and styles. Suitable for both intimate and expansive listening experiences, her knack for toying with new techniques and sub-genres has made her one of the most exciting rising producers going right now. After releasing music through Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs and expanding her following, Ellie is looking to close out 2015 with a bang.
“Why’d You” is taken from Ellie’s new EP, which is due to release November 6, and expands upon the chaotic sounds of the recently released “Maze.” With its pulsing rhythm and abrupt turns, “Why’d You” is one of the finest examples of Ellie’s versatility and talent to date. Read what Ellie had to say about the genesis of the track and how she created it below.
“Why’d You” started out as a little production attempt in using my own voice instead of finding a sample that I could manipulate into a track. Most of the time I get stuck in sampling land and I stay there for wayyy too long. Ditching that really freed me up to work on other elements of the track.
