Corbin

After remaining quiet for so long, Corbin resurfaced last month to announce his debut album, Mourn. Produced entirely by Shlohmo and D33J with contributions from Juice Jackal and Antwon, Mourn adopts a striking approach, much removed from the sound of his early output as Spooky Black. Groggy and inspired by everything from new wave and post-punk to industrial and Detroit techno, Mourn is a remarkable debut.

Running at a brief forty minutes, the album follows the narrative of a recluse urging his lover to move into a bunker in the middle of nowhere. It's a story that suits his heavy delivery and matured songwriting talents, with some particularly dark imagery and storytelling. Paired with the eerie production, Mourn is a singular vision, among the year's best. Experimenting with his vocals and singing over stranger production than ever before, Corbin has proven himself to be one of 2017's most intriguing artists.
