Vic Mensa isn’t content with current events in these so-called United States of America. Now at peace with the sexual orientation of a “queer” family member and stunned by the tragic mass shooting that struck Orlando nightclub Pulse just two weeks ago, the Chicago MC calls for change on “Free Love.”
The newly unveiled song finds Mensa enlisting help from Lil B, Halsey, Malik Yusef, and Le1f, who together attack bigotry and traditionalism as they advocate for LGBT equality. “Free love is not a luxury,” Vic states with a sing-song delivery. “You can f*ck who you want to f*ck.”
The record’s Sunday arrival is fitting: throughout the weekend, multiple countries held large events celebrating gay pride. Vic coupled his release with a letter that urged fans to think openly and embrace others. Head below to stream “Free Love” and read Mensa’s heartfelt note in its entirety.
