Video: Mick Jenkins - "Get Up Get Down"

Watch Jenkins enlist three youthful dancers to inspire good times and rhythmic movements.

When things are “all bad, all bad, all bad,” as Mick Jenkins lightly croons on his stellar Wave[s] cut “Get Up Get Down,” the arts offer comfort by way of expression. Dance enlists the body rather than a mic or easel, though it’s fueled by music’s rhythms and sounds. The Chicago rapper’s video for his aforementioned single focuses on just that.

Three oft-grinning teens star in the Nathan R. Smith and Sebastian Sdaigui-directed visual. Upon reuniting after the ring of a school bell, the trio travels to various locations and joyously executes a series of twists and flips I can only dream of ever achieving with my own limbs. Positivity radiates from the kids’ captivating performance—a fitting interpretation of the uptempo soundscape, produced by ThemPeople and Stefan Ponce.
