Allan Kingdom and Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract established themselves as young leaders in hip-hop, pushing both themselves and their listeners to embrace novel sounds. The previous collaboration between the two—last summer’s “Already”—balanced tip-toe raps with a swelling hook. This time around, their synergy yields something more lucid and loosely formed.

“Refresh,” released moments ago, is wholly melodic. Sing-song crooning sets the track to cruise-control, something that’s at once easily accessibly without lacking depth. Kevin acknowledges past mistakes, and Kingdom cleverly turns an old hip-hop axiom on its head: “Them hoes ain’t got nothin’ on ya, that’s why I got nothin’ on ya.” Romil and Kiko handle the production on this one.
