As soon as you mention the name Q-Tip, any fan of hip-hop will probably go into a long-winded speech about how A Tribe Called Quest changed their life. The effect of their music has been told multiple times from the mouths of different artists, but it’s not often that we get to hear the whole story from Q-Tip himself. Q-Tip recently sat down with Benji B of BBC Radio 1 to speak about his life and career thus far. In the hour long audio documentary, Pharrell, Nas and The Pharcyde all also chime in to discuss the impact that Q-Tip’s innovative style of sampling had on their own careers.

In the interview Q-Tip announces his plans to re-release The Low End Theory with his original album cover idea (a naked Naomi Campbell painted with the ATCQ logo on her) in celebration of the beloved album’s 25th anniversary. He also mentioned a new TV series he’s producing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, based on the Native Tongues collective which includes A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers, etc. Listen to the interview below and stay tuned for everything Q-Tip currently has in the works.
