FKA Twigs recently stopped by Benji B’s BBC Radio 1 show for an in-depth conversation. During their talk, Twigs discussed the joy of being back home, dealing with the lack of privacy in the spotlight, and of course her music.

On the heels of the release of her recent Melissa EP, FKA Twigs explains how the process and the music differs from their album LP1. “I think that my album was born out of a lot of neurosis, friction and uncertainty,” said Twigs. “Melissa was born out of a lot of pain, heartbreak, and something kind of deeper.” She went on to explain that on LP1 there was no “orgasmic” moment within the album: “I was so pent up when I made it that I couldn’t even have that release.

As expected, the more successful FKA Twigs becomes, the more omnipresent she seems to be—with her videos, music, and pictures being practically everywhere now. She explained it saying that it’s like “this lid gets blown off and it’s just like being exposed.” The almost hour-long discussion allows the rather timid FKA Twigs to open up a bit more, and show a new side of herself.
