For almost a year, Viceland has been producing documentary style TV shows on the new network about music, food, travel, drugs, and everything in between—most notably providing a home for Action Bronson's hit series Fuck, That's Delicious. After months of working to create their own lane in television, it looks like the network is ready to take a step in the direction of scripted shows.
According to Deadline, Viceland's first attempt will be a comedy currently titled What Would Diplo Do? The new series will star actor James Van Der Beek as a fictional version of the producer. Diplo and Van Der Beek will serve as executive producers for the new comedy, the latter will also work as a writer.
What Would Diplo Do? is being described as "Louie meets WorldStarHipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap." The idea for the full comedy series came about after Van Der Beek played Diplo in last year's promo video for his annual Mad Decent Block Party tour. Van Der Beek's character poked fun of the producer in a way that was so ridiculous that it turned out to be actually kind of funny. We can expect more of that in the new series.
