Pigeons & Planes and In The Know's new series Making It goes behind the scenes and gets personal with six of music’s most exciting rising artists across genres like rap, R&B, and indie. Get familiar with tomorrow's stars today, and discover what drives them to create and push boundaries. For our latest episode, we spent some time with Kenny Mason in Atlanta.
ATL has become a dominant city in hip-hop, but rapper Kenny Mason is doing things differently from his peers. His appropriately titled song "HIT" was the perfect introduction and set things off with a huge chorus and impressive technical rapping, and follow-up singles "Angelic Hoodrat" and "Metal Wings" showcase the young artist's versatility. Mason grew up idolizing Lil Wayne, but at the same time he was soaking up music by rock bands like the Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins. The combination of styles and influences has shaped Kenny Mason into one of the most compelling new artists in music, and he's leading the way for a new generation of ATL rappers not defined by trap.
