Lil Skies' Life of a Dark Rose was one of 2018's early highlight releases, and the Pennsylvania rapper hasn't rested on his laurels since putting it out. He's unveiled a raucous live show, announced a new run of tour dates, and even hinted at collaborations with Gucci Mane that are in the works. Now, he's back with a taste of what he has in store musically, teasing a new track on Instagram.

The song fits in the mold of his previous work, it's emotionally vulnerable and contemplative without being short on confidence and swagger. Cloudy synths and light trap drums are clearly his canvas of choice, and the song echoes Life of a Dark Rose cuts like "Nowadays" and "Strictly Business." In a recent interview with Pigeons & Planes, Skies opened up about touring alongside Lil Uzi Vert, the impact of his father's life-threatening injury in a construction explosion, and the meaning of the phrase "Dark Rose."

"Where the 'Dark Rose' comes from for me is, I'm in a small town, I'm in this big-ass world, you feel me? I feel like I was like a rare gem," he said. "There's more kids like us, we're rare gems, and like, we're the dark roses because you don't see us."
