When we talked to Appleby in 2015, he told us, “Mystery is an odd concept since the blossoming of the internet. For me, it’s more or less just enjoyable that I can control how I’m perceived when I keep something as simple as my face from the public’s view.” Appleby has hidden his face for the last few years, but today—after a very quiet 2017—he's returning with a new song and a picture of himself, face and all.
"It took me a year and several awful songs to discover what sonically makes me happy," Appleby says. "'Pages' and all the music on my next project is a product of self-discovery. Initially ‘Pages’ wasn't intended to be the first song shared off my upcoming project. Finding out it was going to be in Grown-ish, made me re-listen and realize it’s the perfect way to introduce what's next."
"Pages" is a gentle, mellow song with a bittersweet feel to it and more of an organic approach than Appleby's past releases. It will appear in Grownish tonight at 8 p.m. EST. Listen below.
