It's taken a while to get here, but L.A.-based singer/songwriter Roy Blair has finally delivered his debut album. When we first premiered "Thunder" last year, it was clear Roy was gearing up to release something special with Cat Heaven. It was expected to arrive this summer, but unforeseen setbacks got in the way of plans.

With its upfront, almost autobiographical lyrics, Cat Heaven is a personal affair worth the wait. With production help from Lontalius, Romil of Brockhampton, and Instupendo among others, Cat Heaven is gorgeous and consistent. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone and anyone who helped on this record," he tweeted following its release last night.

Speaking to Roy over Twitter, he told us, "It took way longer than planned because it just wasn't at the right level of quality in the summer." The resulting album sounds all the better for its delayed release, though, sounding like one of the most fleshed-out debut efforts of the year. "I wasn't going to give up on it, because I knew how special it was."

Dealing with that difficult transitionary period between being a teenager and an adult, it's easy to relate to the growing pains on Cat Heaven. "The record is about when you have to let go of what made your teenage years so special and start to look towards something new in adulthood." It's a struggle a lot of us go through, and Roy depicts it beautifully with painful accuracy here.
