Kendrick Lamar has been dominating 2017 so very few were surprised when the Compton MC opened up this year's VMAs with a fiery performance of "DNA." and "HUMBLE." What viewers didn't know was that the impressive performance was actually planned to be a part of the "DAMN." tour.

After winning the Video of the Year award, Kendrick spoke to MTV and explained how the performance was originally meant for the tour, but was scrapped after insurers wouldn't cover it. The interviewer asked how much insurance was needed to cover the firewall which led to K. Dot's close friend Dave Free explaining, "It was something we wanted to do for the tour but the insurance policy didn't cover it, so VMA's came through for the insurance policy. Everything worked out so we're just blessed to be a part of it here tonight."

Check out the full interview above as Kenny and company talk about the big win and overall successful night for the TDE camp.
