Back in December 2016, I watched Aminé play his first major hometown show in Portland after his breakout single "Caroline" turned him into a star. Midway through the show, he brought out Kehlani.
For a moment, it felt like a flex—like he was proving to his old buddies (and doubters) that he can do shit like that now that he's made it. But after watching them on stage together for a few minutes, the chemistry was obvious.
Now, six months later, that chemistry shines through on their new song "Heebiejeebies." Over sun-drenched, breezy production from Jahaan Sweet, the two pull off a duet that Aminé says was inspired by classic early 2000s collaborations like Usher and Alicia, Jay Z and Beyoncé, or Ja Rule and Ashanti.
