Earlier this month, Smino created an ode to black women with his single "Anita." Emphasizing that "now is such an important time to be confident about blackness," Smino continues down this path of celebrating blackness with his latest release "Blkoscars." With the 89th Academy Awards airing this Sunday evening, Smino takes the time to celebrate this monumental year as a record six black actors have received Oscar nominations for the coming ceremony.

Last year we saw art reflect the beauty as well as the struggle of being black with albums like Beyoncé'sLemonade and Solange'sA Seat at the Table. As well as movies such as Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Fences. The theme of unapologetically embracing your blackness has continued into 2017 and Smino continues to do his part by making his voice heard on the topic.

As usual, Smino teams up with friend and frequent-producer Monte Booker for "Blkoscars." The track opens up with a short verse from fellow Zero Fatigue crew member Jay2 before Smino lays down a suave verse of his own. The hard-hitting production works to make people stop and pay full attention to everything Jay2 and Smino have to say.
