Ahsh Eff in New York 2017

Ahsh Eff first caught our attention when she released her song "Storefront" in 2016. The 21-year-old New York rapper has been steadily dropping singles since, after spending her energy finding producers who could capture the sound she had in mind. Growing up in New York after the turn of the millennium,  Ahsh spent her childhood listening to icons like Pimp C and Cam'ron, but balanced that out with a love for Nirvana, Slipknot, and Ashlee Simpson.

She put out a string of singles in the last year, "@YoungThug," "PBP," and "staain," that somehow manage to take pieces from all of her influences, and land on a sound that's gritty and menacing, but coated in a smooth veneer. "I’m trying to deliver my vibe," she explains. "I have these Slipknot, and death undertones that give you that gut, deep, rich instrumental feeling.  I feel like my stuff is hip-hop, but not really."

For someone who doesn't consider herself fully hip-hop, she shares a new song today that's every bit as menacing and ego-driven as the rap coming out of New York in the mid-2000s was. She teamed up with producer Stelios and Ryan Scott for "Kozart," an ode to her crew and the power of rolling with a gang of focused friends trying to get shit done. "My life is rough I would say, but I find a way to make it glamorous," she says. "The lack of unity in the world...I don’t like to complain about it, I’d much rather give a little piece of myself, like a song that could at least help some people to feel what I’m feeling right now."

Listen to Kozart below and keep an eye out for more from this promising new name.
