Pigeons & Planes' Most Anticipated Albums of 2017

From FKA Twigs and Mac Demarco to Young Thug and Kendrick Lamar, there's a lot to look forward to in 2017.

2016 was a rough year in a lot of ways, but it was definitely a great year for music. Whether you're talking about superstars or new artists, individual songs or whole albums, there was a lot of amazing music to enjoy, but could 2017 be even better?

Since we dropped our end of year lists, we've already had new albums from Run The Jewels, The xx, Wiley, Dutchboy, and SOHN to enjoy, and that's just in the past few weeks. Migos' Culture is right around the, Sampha's Process is out soon, Arcade Fire are set to return, Pusha T has an album on the way, and there are wild cards like that rumored Kendrick Lamar/J Cole collab album.

Whatever else happens, we'll always have the music. Here are the albums we're most excited for in 2017.

Migos - 'Culture'

There's no denying that Migos have been on a hot streak lately. Just when you think they couldn't make a catchier song than their last, they outdo themselves and prove us all wrong once again. In 2016, Migos' "Bad and Boujee" skyrocketed up the charts, they started their acting careers off on a high note, and the three rappers showed just how worldwide Migos have become when a packed crowd in Nigeria knew every word to their songs.

Migos' forthcoming album Culture is due out on January 27, and features appearances by Lil Uzi Vert, DJ Khaled, and 2 Chainz. Riding the wave of "Bad and Boujee," "T-Shirt," "Call Casting," and "What the Price," the stage is set for Culture to be a special release.—Adrienne Black

Drake - 'More Life'

More Life is a "playlist project" made up of original content and OVO collaborations. Drake announced this project during an episode of OVO Sound Radio and also dropped four new records. Each track represented the formula and personality of Drake that has been keeping him relevant and atop the rap game.

"Wanna Know (Remix)" is Drake hearing a song he likes from a rising artist (Dave in this case), mimicking the flow, and re-releasing the song on a major platform, championing a new sound and ensuring that it's associated with Drake from here on out.

"Sneakin" is an example of Drake buddying up with one of the hottest rappers in the game, 21 Savage, and diving into their sound, ensuring rap relevance and re-establishing credibility among hip-hop fans who may be starting to view Drake as more of a pop star and less of a rapper.

"Two Birds One Stone" is Drake taking time to address a few of the many adversaries he's encountered over time, usually in a dismissive tone and filled with witty jabs. These tracks are usually huge, as songs like "Back to Back" and "Stay Schemin" delivered some of the biggest moments and most popular quotes in recent memory. "Two Birds One Stone" was allegedly aimed at Pusha T and Kid Cudi but did not reach the level of success of many of Drake's prior diss tracks.

None of these songs are bad, but they aren't great either. Earlier on, these formulas worked magic and songs like "Tuesday" and "Back to Back" were nominated for Grammys. This time around, the songs fell flat. "Two Birds One Stone" received backlash, and unlike when Makonnen signed to OVO Sound after the success of "Tuesday," 21 Savage rode off with his new Ferarri and went on to sign with Epic Records.

Drake and his camp pushed back the release of the playlist, so there may be a change in approach, but either way it will be interesting to see how More Life sounds and how this will affect Drake's reign at the top of the rap game.
