A strong debut is more important than ever before. With so much music available and the shrinking attention spans of listeners, a good first impression is key. London-based artist Tara Carosielli nailed it with "Leave You Lonely." It's the only song she has on SoundCloud and Spotify, but it's a polished, moody piece of pop that melds gorgeous vocals with chilled out production from Kito and an unforgettable chorus. It's already got hundreds of thousands of plays on Spotify and it's starting to take off on SoundCloud too. Check out "Leave You Lonely" below, and stay tuned for more from Tara Carosielli.

First off, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Tara Carosielli. I’m from a small town in South London called Purley.

"Leave You Lonely" is your only song on SoundCloud. Is this your first single?

"Leave You Lonely" isn’t an official single but it was a song that I really felt like needed to be heard.

When did you start making music?

I started making actual songs at 17, but I grew up around people who loved music and loved to make music so I’ve always been inspired to write and sing. I was always making music in my head.

What music did you grow up listening to, and what are you into now?

I stole my mum's Lisa Stansfield album when I was little, I loved her. Eminem and 2Pac were always being played out loud in the house. Right now I’m listening to Portishead, their album Dummy is so silky. I listen to a lot of Young Thug and Lana Del Rey too.

Can you tell us a little about "Leave You Lonely"?

The day I wrote "Leave You Lonely" my heart and brain were just tired. The boy I felt like I loved had broken up with me that same morning and I guess I wrote "Leave You Lonely" as an ode to myself to stay strong. Although I was completely vulnerable and heartbroken, I also felt so powerful in that moment.

How did you connect with the producer, Kito?

I met Kito in 2014 and we reconnected in the summer of 2015. Since then we’ve become a team. It’s easy to work with somebody when you’re both on the same page. We wrote "Leave You Lonely" within a few hours and the music and the song came together in the same day.

It looks like the song is really starting to take off. Are you surprised at all or did you know that this one would really make an impact?

I didn’t really know what to expect, I just wanted "Leave You Lonely" to exist. I was so nervous to put it out, it felt so revealing but I’m entirely grateful and happy to know that people are connecting with it.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

Anything! I feel like people are so afraid to feel but I think there’s so much strength in feeling. Somebody wrote to me and told me "Leave You Lonely" was a reminder to them of how powerful they could be. That felt good.

What's your ultimate goal with music?

There is no end goal, its just something I have to do to stay sane. It’s who I am.

What's next for you?

I’m in the studio every day, writing, recording, feeling. I’m excited to put something new out soon. I hope people will love it.
