The Skins, a genre-defying quintet from Brooklyn, are one of the most promising new voices in music. Today, they have shared the first single from their forthcoming EP, Still Sleep, which is set to be released on December 9. The impressive track is called "Bury Me," and it features a scintillating guest verse from D.R.A.M.
Over slinky instrumentation, The Skins' lead singer Bay Li and D.R.A.M. sing soulfully about a relationship gone sour.
“Lyrically, it’s about when you’re in a relationship, and you’re so far gone that you’re letting your significant other torture you,” Bay Li explains. “You’re so deeply in love that you’re oblivious to being disrespected and treated in such a bad way.”
Comprised of three siblings and two friends, the band formed at the New York School of Rock in 2012. The youngest member, drummer Reef McKeithan, is only 17 and the oldest member, guitarist Russ Chell, is 24. The band's youth translates into energetic, forward-thinking music that sounds disruptive in the current climate of the industry.
"We are, after all generation Z, our music reflects that...our style...it's like a new type...we are Genre Z," Bay Li says of their unprecedented sound.
Although the group has released music in the past, they consider their upcoming EP, which is executive produced by Take a Daytrip, to be their proper introduction.
