The Canadian city of Brampton, a suburban sprawl about thirty minutes north of Toronto, has been gaining recognition recently thanks to artists like Roy Woods, Tory Lanez, Wondagurl, and Alessia Cara. But as ever, if you dig a little deeper, there's a rich talent pool to be explored.
On his new track "Tuxedo," Brampton native The 25th Hr blends inventive percussion and sparkling production with smooth R&B vocals, explaining, “The song came together while I was working on my live set. I started experimenting with singing while playing keys and found this groove. It felt like an uptempo ballad somewhere between dance and rocksteady. I wasn’t feeling the percussion so I tried out this rhythm with just a drumstick on a bongo drum and it brought out so much life. Musically I’m just learning different skills and combining them how I see fit. There’s no limit to what we’re doing, 'Tuxedo' is just a beginning.”
"It's a song of over-reflection," The 25th Hr continues. "When relationships end and you’re in a period of overthought. It plays on the simple cliche that you never know what you have until it’s gone.”
