"New Skin definitely covers all bases for me," London vocalist JONES explained to VIBE about the direction of her debut album. "It has, you know, the love songs, it has ballads, but then it has some up-tempo songs as well. It really has kind of the spectrum of all of my emotions that I’ve been experiencing the past two years. Indulge EP was something I put out very early on, but New Skin is just everything coming to life, everything amplified. I’m so proud of it."
Following the early success she saw after introducing herself with stunning songs like "Deep" and "You" back in 2014, JONES has found her lane: crafting songs that embrace melancholy and sadness, while offering a touch of hope. "What I want to put across is that it’s OK to be where you are, wherever you are, to learn from this," she explains in a press release. "We all need the sad songs sometimes, but it’s good to have optimism too, to free your mind of things that make you unhappy.”
New Skin follows through on that mission. A thoroughly enjoyable listen from top to bottom, the twelve song project marries JONES' stunning vocals with gorgeous production from an all-star cast of contributors including HONNE, Two Inch Punch, Digital Farm Animals, and Rodaidh McDonald (Adele).
