On a daily basis music lovers are introduced to hundreds of artists that are new to them, thanks to the internet. In many cases, without even having to go through a simple Google search, it’s easy to correctly guess where an artist is from based on their accent, beat selection, and more. However, because the internet constantly brings us this huge influx of music from all over the globe, many newer artists find themselves having a sound that can’t be directly pinned down to a specific region—creating a sound that can fit into any scenario. This fact seems true for Clarksville, Tennessee rapper/producer Case Arnold.

As Arnold prepares for the release of his debut album SO(U)L Theory later this month, he continues to preview his chameleon-like sound. Last week he shared the album’s first single “Love Found,” a relaxed track with production that blends a nostalgic boom-bap rhythm with elements of jazz. Today he returns with a self-produced second single titled “Psychonaut.”

On “Psychonaut” Arnold delivers a much darker sound than the previous single—a juxtaposition that mirrors the struggle for balance within his own life. As the second single from his forthcoming album, “Psychonaut” feels like the turning point of the personal story being told on SO(U)L Theory.

“The overall theme on SO(U)L Theory is remaining yourself through the good and the bad,” says Arnold, explaining that although he had the title in mind for years he needed time to dig deeper into the story he wanted to share—a message of perseverance. “Dealing with issues in my past with drugs, losing close friends to drugs, and bouncing from place to place really took a toll on me and my spirit. Making it out of that place is what really inspired SO(U)L Theory."
