After years of speculation surrounding a Bruce Springsteen song that was supposedly recorded for the Harry Potter movie series, the rock singer has revealed the truth: his track was rejected. The song in question is called "I'll Stand By You Always," and, according to Springsteen, is "pretty good." The song was recorded in the summer of 2001, shortly before Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone began playing in theaters.
Springsteen spoke about the song in a recent interview with BBC, laughing heartily as he confirmed that his song had been rejected. He described the song as "a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic of something I’d sing myself." He went on to express his confusion as to why the movie's producers rejected it, explaining that "it was something that I thought would have fit lovely; at some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort because it was a pretty lovely song.”
Fortunately for Springsteen, J.K. Rowling has four more movies worth of opportunities to include his music.
