On Tuesday, Solange quietly announced her first project in four years when she shared a poetry book titled A Seat At The Table and promised a new album by week's end. Today, she follows through with a 21-track project that features an impressive lineup including Lil Wayne, Sampha, BJ the Chicago Kid, Q-Tip, Kelela, Kelly Rowland, and more.

Answering questions from fans on Twitter a few hours before the album's release, Solange revealed the primary difference between 2012's True EP and the new record: "True was meant 2 provoke joy & to challenge what we know as Pop. A Seat At The Table is meant to provoke healing & journey of self empowerment." She also explained the potential difficulty in touring the album: "I really want to tour, but my son is in jr high school now & plays basketball & ball is life lol. So I gotta figure that shit out. Duality."
