Vince Staples Explains Why He Loves Fergie and Joy Divison

Vince Staples explained that his 'Summertime '06' artwork was inspired by a Joy Division album.

For Amoeba’s latest episode of “What’s In My Bag?,” Vince Staples stopped by to reveal all of the goodies he picked up during his shopping trip at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles. With the store’s wide range of music selections, it’s always interesting to see all the different things some of our favorite artists enjoy listening to.

As Staples began to reveal all of the things in his bag, the first album he pulled out was Fergie’s solo debut The Dutchess—which he said was filled with “bangers, top to bottom.” When asked if he had a favorite track on the album, Staples answered, “‘London Bridge,’ what you talkin’ ’bout?” without a moment of hesitation.

Staples’ bag also included music from Tha Dogg Pound, The Internet, Led Zeppelin, and Joy Division. Holding up Joy Division’s 1979 album Unknown Pleasures, Staples admitted that the artwork for his debut album Summertime ’06 was based off their album cover.
