Long before he was the frontman of Bon Iver, Justin Vernon was creating music and working on his stage presence with various music projects. In 1998, Vernon was still blossoming as an artists alongside his high school friends in their band Mount Vernon.
Many artists have early beginnings in high school bands, but Mount Vernon actually went on to put out their own debut album during this same year. Thanks to some recently discovered and uploaded footage, we all get a chance to see a young Justin Vernon on stage with his high school band as they perform for the school’s Battle of the Bands competition. The old footage shows how much Vernon’s musical taste and output has changed over the years while giving us a glimpse of a star in the making.
