Recently, when we’ve been talking about the music coming out of Boston, we’ve been talking about rap. Artists like Cousin Stizz and Vintage Lee have been on fire, but here’s Johan to remind us that fantastic music of any style can come from anywhere. His quirky, edgy pop sound has much in common with the left-of-center electronic pop that Scandinavia does so well, but this Boston-based artist boldly creates his own sonic world.

On “high in the woods,” Johan gets an assist from Robin Hannibal of Rhye. “He heard my song ‘danger_us‘ and we got connected,” Johan explains. “I was a big fan of Rhye and we connected over music in general. He offered to open up my session for ‘high in the woods’ and basically just showed me a bunch of stuff to help make it sound sicker. It was awesome. I think we’re gonna start some more music from scratch too.”

“There’s a strange suburban magic that comes out in the rarest of hours, when you sneak around the woods at 1am on a Tuesday with your crew, while everyone’s parents are asleep,” Johan says. Get a piece of that moonlit magic with “high in the woods” below, and check out the rest of johan’s music on SoundCloud here.
