Watch Joey Bada$$ Get Deep Playing Leon on TV Show ‘Mr. Robot’

Joey Bada$$ can do it all. As well as releasing music, performing at festivals, and touring America with ScHoolboy Q, the native New Yorker plays a character named Leon in the second season of TV drama Mr. Robot, which airs on USA. The acclaimed series follows Elliot Alderson, a young cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group fsociety, and the second season kicked off on July 13.

In a clip from last night’s fourth episode which has been uploaded to YouTube, Joey Bada$$’s character Leon talks to the main protagonist Elliot Alderson about the power of dreaming and the meaning of existence. “Dream,” Leon says. “You got to find out the future you’re fighting for. Sometimes you got to close your eyes and really envision that shit, bro. If you like it, then it’s beautiful. If you don’t? Then you might as well fade the fuck out right now.”

Joey Bada$$’s appearances on Mr. Robot probably won’t be the last time we see him acting. In an interview with Rolling Stone he explained that it’s been a passion since high school, and that he was nearly cast as a friend of Barack Obama in an upcoming biopic about the President.

“The week that they wanted to shoot was the week that I had to play Coachella,” he said. But, Joey wasn’t in line for the role of Obama himself. “I was supposed to be his best friend,” Joey explained. “I was the guy who was supposed to show him the projects, and show him how black people was living in America at the time.”
