Watch De La Soul Discuss the Current State of Hip Hop in New Interview

"The current state of hip hop is redundant."

Legendary hip hop group De La Soul are currently gearing up for the release for their upcoming album And The Anonymous NobodyThe trio recently made a stop by BBC Radio 1Xtra to discuss the past, present, and future of music with host Trevor Nelson.

Nelson kicked off the interview with a trip down memory lane, asking if either of them could remember the first rhyme they had ever written or recorded. Sure enough, thanks to some super sharp memory, they were able to give a taste of one of their earliest records. Each member of De La Soul also shared their embarrassing first MC names.

De La Soul went on to speak on their favorite rap verses, and the current state of music. As they each reflected on how far music has come and how much it’s changed, Maseo went on to say that “the current state of hip hop is redundant.”
