During his appearance at Philadelphia’s WXPN XPoNential Music Festival this past weekend, Father John Misty stopped his performance to express his distaste for Donald Trump, whom he called the “Idiot King.” The following day, he stopped by Newport Folk Festival and shared another anecdote, this time, about a recent job opportunity, as Consequence of Sound reports.

Apparently, Chipotle had offered Father John $250,000 to cover Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” for a commercial. He declined, telling the crowd, “I don’t want your fucking burrito money,” but Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James did end up taking up the offer.

His revelation was less about Brittany Howard or Jim James, but rather, it was more about the current state of folk music. Today, he clarified his comments on Twitter, saying that he was simply trying to start a “discussion on whether folk music is good for anything anymore other than just the selling of things.”

Father John Misty also prefaced his performance of I Love You, Honeybear highlight “Bored in the USA” with his mixed feelings about the song. He discussed how when he initially penned the song, he “wanted to tell people that it is okay to feel your own pain […] because if you can’t feel that, you’re not going to be able to feel some exotic kind of pain that some people group that you perceive to be more authentic than you has.” He then encouraged the crowd to “feel our yuppie pain with a song.”

Yesterday evening, Father John Misty officially released his one-off single, “Real Love Baby.” Listen to that here, and watch Father John talk about Chipotle below.
