It took over 15 years, but Australian group The Avalanches finally returned earlier this month with “Frankie Sinatra,” bringing along Danny Brown and DOOM in the process. Taken from their forthcoming and long-overdue second album Wildflower, “Frankie Sinatra” offered us a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come from one of the most delayed albums in recent history. Now the group has returned with a second preview of the record, this time with Toro y Moi in tow.

In an obscure mix recently uploaded to Mixcloud, a new track from The Avalanches featuring Toro y Moi has surfaced. Titled “If I Was a Folkstar,” the new track takes a different approach from the bombastic “Frankie Sinatra,” but is still 100% The Avalanches. Sampling Queens of The Stone Age’s “You Think I Ain’t Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire,” the track focuses on a central groove that moves forward with the kind of swagger that made 2000’s Since I left You so memorable.

When Toro y Moi’s vocals come in later in the song, it feels like a revelation, revealing his smooth vocals as another layer of the densely put together song. Listen out for the song at 5:17 in the mix below. Look out Wildflower when it releases July 8 via Modular/Astralwerks/XL/EMI.
