The funk is alive and well in Atlanta. Curtis Fields and Phil Jones have forgone trap in favor of alternative R&B, which is just as much a part of their city’s history as any other genre. You can hear the ghosts of Outkast in the beginning of “Turn Me Up,” the latest track from this duo known as The Pheels. The song starts with a sung prayer, eerie harmonies that spit flitting wisdom before the bass kicks in and the song finds its pocket. “Turn Me Up” is only two minutes long, but it takes you someplace special in the time allotted.

It’s another wild cut off their likewise EP, which also features the smooth, smoky vibes of “RnS.” Stream “Turn Me Up” below, and keep an eye out on these two.
