Palmistry—né Benjy Keating—brings an otherworldly strain of minimalism to tropical pop on his debut album Pagan. The 13-song project is now streaming through Apple Music. Early single “Club Aso”—a New Wave selection—promised appealing production and revealing lyrics; a first listen of the LP confirms that Keating continued his wayward, maritime direction.

“I’m lost in the sea. There’s no remedy,” he sings softly on “Lifted.” Breezy synths and sparingly used drum kits comprise a sonic drift beneath his musings. Everyday eye-rolling words (“mmhm,” “uh huh”) turn to ear worm melodies as Palmistry plays with a breathy cadence. Pagan is a soul-baring album from a Londoner who knows that sometimes less is more.
