The relationship between a rapper and a producer seems mutually beneficial from the outsider. According to Flying Lotus, though, this relationship can easily become strained. So much so, in fact, that FlyLo warned fellow producers of being taken advantage of earlier today on Twitter.
“Very important to know your worth,” FlyLo began in his series of tweets. “To producers. When a rapper invites [you] to the studio and asks [you] to make beats on the spot. Tell them to pay your fee on the spot, [’cause] fuck that.” The producer goes on to reveal that many of those who work behind the scenes are actually broke as a result of rappers failing to pay them properly.
FlyLo also touches on Metro Boomin and Future, suggesting that Metro Boomin should be the one who gets credit for Future’s success because “he makes that shit what it is.”
In his final tweets, he mentions an unnamed “business man” who “threatened one of the greatest creative relationships” and with whom FlyLo had cut ties because FlyLo had asked for “fairness.” It’s unclear as to who FlyLo is referring to, but one thing seems consistent: Flying Lotus is fed up.
