Album release cycles are more unpredictable than ever, and that leaves the door wide open for Radiohead. In 2007, the band released the game-changing In Rainbows as a pay-what-you-want release with little warning or promo. It was one of the first times that a big-name artist got that experimental with a proper studio album delivery, and in the years following that project, many other A-listers have tried out non-traditional strategies.
The roll-out for Radiohead’s upcoming ninth studio album has been similarly mysterious. They wiped out their social media presence completely before returning with a crazy stop-motion music video, and today they announce that the album will be available digitally on Sunday, May 8. The announcement comes with a new song and video called “Daydreaming.” Watch it and hear it above.
